God’s Marvellous Work: Rebuilding Homes and Lives

23 October 2025

In Sagaing, Myanmar, the very first house built by the CNEC Relief Team belonged to a widow with four children. Her husband had died in 2016, leaving her to bear the family burden alone.

When the earthquake stuck on 28 March 2025, her frail home collapsed. A wall from the neighbour’s house crushed her ten-year-old son and her brother. With nowhere else to go, she and her surviving children huddled under a ragged tarpaulin in a neighbour’s doorway.

Years earlier, in 2010, she had heard the Gospel in Myitkyina. She attended church meetings for a time and even learned to sing a few hymns. But back in her hometown, surrounded by devout Buddhists and an unbelieving family, the seed of faith was buried deep beneath the soil of her heart.

Yet God had not forgotten her. In His providence, the very first house to rise from the rubble was hers. When she heard the news, tears of joy poured down her face.

“I am not yet a Christian,” she said, “but Jesus has not forgotten me. In my darkest, most painful, most helpless hour, he still loves me. He has let me see light in the darkness and given me hope again.”

Another recipient of a new home was a single father raising two children alone. His life had been gruelling, earning just enough to survive. The earthquake destroyed his home, leaving him and his children sleeping under a sheet of plastic.

When a new house was built for them, tears streamed down his face.

“Thank you for giving me a home,” he said. “Through this I came to know Jesus. Since believing, God has answered my prayers.”

Your Gift Can Change a Life

Following the earthquake in Myanmar, CNEC’s relief team have not only been rebuilding houses, but also bringing the love of Christ and the hope of the Gospel. With every plank nailed and every wall raised, they have sat with families and shared about Jesus.

This Christmas, you can help give the gift of Temporary Homes by purchasing WorldShare’s Charity Gift and help bring hope, revival & restoration for more families in Myanmar who lost everything in the earthquake in March. These buildings are more than just shelters; they are powerful symbols of renewed hope.
