Wakisa Ministries was established to provide practical support, Christian counselling and vocational skills to young girls rejected by their families due to unwanted pregnancies. Alongside their well-established pregnancy crisis centre, Wakisa have recently built a new maternity centre. • Ava’s Story •

15-year-old Ava arrived at Wakisa Ministries in March 2024 and by June, she had given birth to a beautiful baby girl. With the added challenge of only having one arm, Ava is adapting well to motherhood thanks to the practical, spiritual and psychological support she is receiving at Wakisa. Her fellow mothers have stepped in with immense love, helping Ava with baby care tasks. This collective effort has fostered a beautiful bond among them, creating a nurturing and supportive environment.

It is this environment that Wakisa want to replicate in their maternity centre. Being able to give birth in a safe, judgement-free space would give girls like Ava the best start to motherhood after such a traumatic start to life.

WorldShare’s target to help equip Wakisa’s examination room, labour ward and neonatal ward is £21,000.

Wakisa are at stage two of a three stage process. They have built the maternity centre (pictured above) and we would now love to help them equip it, so that they can recruit medical professionals in the final stage. The cost of fully funding the centre is £91,000, and we are aiming to raise at least £21,000 through this appeal to help equip:
  • An examination room, including a couch, computer and examination equipment, ensuring the girls are checked carefully and comfortably.
  • A labour ward, including delivery beds, monitors, IV drip stands, midwives’ scrubs (aprons & boots), delivery kits, medicine trollies and much more.
  • A neonatal ward, including incubators, infant warmers, oxygen tanks and infant monitors, ensuring vulnerable babies get the care they need.

Wakisa’s vision for their equipped maternity centre is that it will be a safespace where young girls and their babies are treated with dignity and loving care. We invite you to prayerfully consider how you can respond to this need today, enabling their vision to become a reality...
