Hurricane Melissa: Caribbean Relief Appeal

Hurricane Melissa made landfall in Jamaica on 28 October 2025 as a Category 5 storm with sustained winds of 185 mph, a 9-13 ft storm surge and 15-30 inches of rainfall, marking the most powerful hurricane to strike the country since 1988.

During its six-hour passage across western Jamaica it caused catastrophic flooding and wind destruction resulting in extensive structural losses. Thousands of homes, major health facilities and both international airports sustained damage. Thankfully, Norman Manley International has since reopened to support relief operations.

UNICEF estimates that 864,000 people, including 280,000 children, are affected, with initial priorities including:

    • restoring access to safe water and sanitation
    • resuming primary health care and nutrition services
    • protecting vulnerable children and adolescents
    • ensuring continuity of education
    • providing aid to stabilise households’ immediate needs for food & shelter

'...as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people,
especially to those who belong to the family of believers.'
Galatians 6:10

WorldShare is now able to respond to this tragedy. Historic ministry partner, Jamaica Theological Seminary, needs funds to provide urgent, immediate, emergency relief for those whose lives have been devastated and restore churches that have been damaged by this powerful natural disaster.

One example is Jamaica Missionary Church in Hanover parish, pastored by Ronald Webster. The devastation can be seen in the video and there are other churches in a similar position.

Please pray for the people of Jamaica, for Jamaica Theological Seminary as they respond to the needs in their surrounding communities and for all those engaged in the relief effort at this difficult time.

We invite you to prayerfully consider how you could respond today:
