In The Wake of Eruption
When Volcan de Fuego erupted on the 3rd of June, 12,000 people were evacuated from their homes and more then 1.7 million people were affected.
Our ministry partner Potter’s House in Guatemala are in a position to be able to respond quickly to natural disasters and emergency situations. Although part of their focus was on the initial days of the emergency, they also understand the importance of managing long-term support. They feel that God called them to intervene strategically in coordinating all participants (victims, communities, national and international supporters, staff etc), empowering the local church and establishing partnerships in order to provide deep impact and dependency on God—not individuals or organisations.
Potter’s House have focused their support in the wake of the volcano eruption, on two communities in the Escuintla and Sacatepequez states providing vital support in many different ways.
The initial relief efforts had the following impacts:
30 families from a shelter in the Escuintla State were also given emotional and spiritual health support through a range of different activities. Many of the survivors are still in shock and find it difficult to open up to others, making their emotional healing difficult and slow. Thanks to the generous donations of WorldShare supporters, Potter’s House can continue to provide this support for many more people.
Please pray for strength, as many families are still looking for loved ones and pray also for healing from the trauma of these events.
