Have you considered leaving a gift in your will to the work of WorldShare?

After you’ve provided for your loved ones, your gift can give vital support to our partner ministries in their efforts to make a lasting change among their communities.

Why leave a legacy?

Leaving a legacy to WorldShare can make a huge difference and allows you to do something really significant for a cause you believe in.

Your gift, whatever the size, can make an incredible difference to how we support our ministry partners.

Ways you can leave a legacy

  • A fixed amount
  • Specific items

    (land, buildings, shares)

  • A % of the remaining balance

Inheritance Tax

Leaving a gift to charity in your will can be a tax efficient way to deal with your estate. Inheritance tax is currently charged at 40%. However, if you leave 10% or more of your estate to charity, the rate can be reduced to 36%.

Your legacy can make a difference

A recent legacy gift enabled us to set up the Bibirhat Education Scheme in India. The
scheme provides education for needy children living in the slum villages of Kolkata.

Your Will

You can chose to write your will yourself, but it needs to be formally witnessed and signed in order to make it legally valid. Witnesses must be independent adult witnesses (i.e. over the age of 18 and not a family member) and must not be beneficiaries.

There is some guidance on writing your will at www.gov.uk/make-will

We advise that you seek professional legal advice through a solicitor, especially if your will is complicated. You can find a local solicitor through The Law Society. To contact them please call 020 7320 5650 or visit www.lawsociety.org.uk

Keeping your will safe

You can store your will at home or you can securely leave it with one of the following:

  • Your solicitor
  • Your bank
  • A company that offers the storage of wills.

You should ensure that your executor is aware of where your will is stored.

You will need to include the following information to leave a gift to WorldShare:

Name: WorldShare

Address: Armstrong House, First Avenue, Robin Hood Airport, Doncaster DN9 3GA

Updating an existing will

To change an existing will to include WorldShare, you need to make a codicil. A codicil is a simple form to instruct a change to the terms of your current will. To use a codicil to add WorldShare to your will, download the WorldShare codicil form below.

Your codicil needs to be formally witnessed and signed in the same way as your will. You should store the codicil with, but not attached to, your current will.

If your request is more complicated, you may like to get the advice of a solicitor.
